On Saturday, 2 April, the 90th anniversary of the Poděbrady Race Walking International Meeting will take place at the Spa Colonnade in Poděbrady, where a high-quality race walk spectacle can be expected again.
The Central Bohemian spa town is one of the most traditional and also the most popular race walking destinations in the world. The Poděbrady meeting has enjoyed great fame for almost a century, and in its rich history, world records have been set and the biggest stars of this athletic discipline have competed here. Poděbrady is thus well renowned in the world of race walking.
Proof of this is that the 18th World Cup took place here in 1997.In 2017, Poděbrady hosted the European Walking Cup, and in May, the best race walkers of the Old Continent came to Central Bohemia to compete within the European Team Championships, a competition which will be held by Poděbrady also in 2023 and 2025. The race walk fans have definitely something to look forward to.
Poděbrady Walking is included in the World Athletics Race Walking Gold category for next year, i.e. the highest one. Within the event, an interstate match is also held every year. Seven federations are expected to attend this match in April. The Czech representatives will compete on the 20km course with athletes from France, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania and Slovakia.The junior category then has a 10km course in the program.
This year's 90th anniversary will also be a celebration of 125 years of Czech athletics. The meeting itself will be complemented by a rich accompanying program, which will include public race walking races for youth and legends, the mayor's run and the popular Athletics for Children.
